Getting someone’s attention for a few seconds is a huge win for marketers looking to get their product out there, but what you get them to do after that initial glance is where the real success comes from.

Too often in marketing the content you make reaches your desired audience but you still struggle to get those click throughs and engagement you so desperately need. It can be very frustrating to get the views without the engagement, but there is a simple test you can run on your content before publishing it to determine if you’re on the right track. This test is called “the first glance test” and can be done with 3 easy questions:

What does this company do?

Who do they help?

Why is this important to me?

If someone unfamiliar with your brand can’t answer these questions after their first glance of your marketing content then you have some work to do.

As marketers, we all become so familiar with our product and brand that we often forget what it’s like to encounter our content for the first time.

Sometimes what seems obvious internally, may be lacking important information to an outside consumer. Next time you have content you want to put out try having a fresh set of eyes look at it. If they can answer those 3 questions upon first glance, congrats! If not, then a little retooling with the new perspective in mind may be all that you need.

Need a fresh take on your marketing content? Feel free to send it over and we’d be happy to run it through the First Glance Test and provide some feedback.
