Sometimes, the best marketing comes from your audience itself. We saw this in action with our very first "Farrier Dog of the Year" contest for our Equine publication American Farriers Journal.

What started as a fun community event quickly turned into a wave of user-generated content (UGC), with participants creating their own graphics and posts to rally votes for their dogs. The result? Nearly 3,000 unique votes in just two weeks and an organic engagement that had our audience sharing content all over social media.

UGC refers to any form of content—whether it's text, videos, images, reviews or social media posts—created by people rather than the brand itself. This type of content enhances brand credibility, drives higher engagement and builds community trust by highlighting genuine customer experiences and perspectives.

In this infographic, I share 4 ways to use user-generated content to boost your organic marketing efforts. Be sure to check out our previous Marketing Minute on User-Generated Content for inspiration on how top brands have harnessed UGC to spark ideas for your own brand!
